Hog Roast Mumbles – Turning the Clock Back to Medieval Times with Authentic Hog Roast Catering

Hog Roast MumblesWhen Hog Roast Mumbles was just getting off the ground as a caterer in the UK, we made the conscious decision to pick a signature dish and dining style that had a real story behind it. We wanted something worth some style and spectacle, something that was truly unique, and perhaps even worthy of being called an event of its own.

This took us, as you might have guessed, to the hog roast – a dish and culinary style that dates back centuries to medieval times. We’ve all seen or imagined the image of a kingly court and the pig sat atop a spit in a fire pit at some point in our lives – that is exactly what the hog roast is and the reason it has remained such a special dish for events through the centuries.

Well for the pupils of local primary schools in Swansea, there was little need to imagine any longer as Oystermouth Castle invited classes to step back in time for the 4th Cynefin and endure life as it was for a day in the medieval times. This is an event inspired by the Battle of Gower on New Year’s day 1136, and it creates a living classroom out of the castle for pupils to learn and experience medieval living through storytelling, music, and performances. The castle was brought to life once more as it was ten centuries ago. To keep the dining authentic and to give the pupils all something substantial to eat, the authentic hog roast dining of Hog Roast Mumbles was called upon to serve at the castle.

This was a real privilege for our team. We have always valued the authenticity of our hog roast; to have that validated by an event steeped in such history was brilliant. It was also just a very fun day for our team too, as well as being plenty informative for our chefs and servers as well as the school pupils. The next time the Hog Roast Mumbles team goes to cater our hog roast for an event, we’ll have many more little factoids about the history of our foods to share with our guests!Hog Roast Mumbles
